How to choose a portable power station
Compare battery capacity, AC output, and charging before buying.
Start with your devices
List each device you plan to power, its typical wattage, and how long it needs to run. Multiply watts by hours and add the results to estimate the total energy in watt-hours.
Check watts and watt-hours separately
Watt-hours tell you how much energy the battery stores. Continuous watts tell you how much power the station can deliver at once. Compare the sum of simultaneous loads with the station’s rated output and check startup surges separately.
Check outlets and recharge options
Confirm the plug type and voltage on the exact U.S. model. For solar charging, check the station’s supported input voltage, current, and connector before choosing a panel.
Models to compare
Start with these three capacity classes: a compact battery for small devices, a 1 kWh option, and a 2 kWh option for longer runtimes.
